Looky Bag

The pilot issue of Looky bag was a Cultural Quarter special. Born out of Winstanley & Nadin’s Counterplay project in September-Dec 2015, Looky Bag aimed to provide cultural audiences with the latest cultural news and give artists an opportunity to show their work, all inside a little brown paper bag.

Since then Over 14,000 free cultural bagzines have be distributed in 4 issues across and beyond the city limits to over 60 stockists based in Staffordshire Moorlands, Stone, Newcastle, Stafford and South Cheshire. Looky Bag has featured the work of 39 artists, poets, photographers, makers, journalists and writers. Submissions have varied hugely in content, showcasing the diversity of creativity in the area. Issues to date have been sponsored by the Stoke-on-Trent UK City of Culture Bid (twice), Wavemaker Stoke and Baker & Co, Fenton Town Hall. Looky Bag now offers membership for £1 a month in order for us to transition away from external funding and making Looky Bag self-sustaining. You can find out more about Looky Bag at
